On 17 June, I travelled to Denmark to hear the first performance of my new organ work Fandangle, commissioned by the wonderful British organist Stephen Farr.

Fandangle is a short, high-energy curtain-raiser written for the cathedral’s celebrated historic organ. The music draws fleeting inspiration from the freedom and unpredictability of the seventeenth-century Stile Fantastico, reimagined and accelerated to near breaking point. Ideas dart rapidly between contrasting harmonic regions, creating a piece intended to sparkle, surprise and propel itself forwards with unstoppable momentum.

I am enormously grateful to Stephen for commissioning the work. He has been a wonderful champion of my music over many years, and it will be a joy to hear him bring this new piece to life.
